A few weeks ago we had a couple of friends over for a casual cookout. Casual and easy were the key words for this last minute get together. Of course I whipped up Cherry Cobbler and a Peach Cobbler too lickity split! Quick! Easy! Always A Crowd Pleaser!

  • As stated above! You can use fresh or frozen cherries, canned cherries or cherry pie filling. It doesn’t have to be cherry season to make this yummy cobbler.
  • You can substitute for a different fruits. (See the list below.)
  • This is an easy recipe and a crowd pleaser!

Easy Cherry Cobbler Recipe

Cherry Cobbler Ingredients

  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh sour or sweet cherries, washed and pitted (Substitute with a can of cherry pie filling or canned cherries.)

optional: 1/2 cup sanding sugar

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED

Cobbler Instructions

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Place the unsalted butter in a cast iron skillet and melt over medium heat. Turn the heat off the very minute it is melted. (If you are using a baking dish, melt the butter in the dish while the oven heats.)

Add the sugar, self-rising flour, and cold milk in a medium mixing bowl. Stir the cherry cobbler recipe batter until just combined.

Note: Just about 20 strokes will do it. Lumps are okay. Be careful not to over work the mixture.

Pour the mixture over the hot butter.

Sprinkle or spoon the fresh cherries, canned cherries, or cherry pie filling over the mixture.

  1. I don’t have self rising flour. Could I use all purpose and baking powder? Or? Thanks.

      You can turn All-Purpose flour into Self-Rising flour easily.
      1 cup AP Flour + 1 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder + 1/2 teaspoon salt. Whisk for 1 minute. Have a great week! -gwyn
