What Red Wines are Best For A Black Sangria?
Any dark red red bold wine will work for this Black Sangria, especially a Malbec or a Cabernet Sauvignon. The Malbec gives a deep purple/red look when poured. Whereas the Cabernet grape is dark but has less of a blue tone.
Below are a few of my favorite picks for both a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Malbec.
Malbec Selections For A Black Sangria Recipe
Malbec is a full bodied red wine with a dark color. It is bold with fruity flavors of blackberry, plum, and cherry. You will also pick up notes of tobacco and a mild smokiness.
Most Malbec choices come from France and Argentina. The Argentinian Malbec offers softer tannins and a brighter acidity while the French Malbec (Cahors) has firmer tannins and a much higher acidity
- Trapiche – Oak Cask Malbec
- Belhara Estate Malbec
- Domaine Bousquet Black Rock Malbec
Cabernet Sauvignon Selections For A Black Sangria Recipe
Cabernet Sauvignon in general has bold dark fruit flavors of blackcurrant, black cherry, and blackberry. Other notes include spice, tobacco, wood, vanilla, and green bell pepper.
- Apothic Cabernet Sauvignon, Winemakers Blend – PS Apothic has a lovely Red Sangria recipe here.
- Seven Oaks Estates Cabernet Sauvignon
- Motif Cabernet Sauvignon
In conclusion, both the Malbec and the Cabernet Sauvignon are great picks for a Black Sangria recipe.
