Clove & Orange Pomander Balls “A Natural Air Freshener That Is Pretty Too”
Hello! Hi! Hey There!
A few weeks ago my husband and I took a quick trip to SWEET GEORGIA to visit our parents for a good dose of southern hospitality and kind people everywhere.
You could say we had Georgia On Our Minds
You cannot enter my mothers home without being inspired by something as she is the quintessential southern lady. Of course the moment we walked in she sat us right down at her table serving a delicious creamy chicken soup that resembled chicken and dumplings.
While we were eating and catching up. The smells of home hit me. Do you know what I mean?! That comforting smell that just makes you feel good?! Well, my Mama adds a little something extra to that “Goodness Me! It Is Good Feeling Smell.”
In her kitchen sits a bowl of Homemade Orange and Clove Pomander Balls. For years they have been there. For years I gaze at them thinking, “I am going to make those.” In fact, I have found myself sitting with her punching those little cloves into oranges for her bowl. The time is here!
I AM MAKING THEM AND I AM SHARING THE HOW TO WITH YOU!
Orange and Clove Pomander Balls not only smell wonderful, they dry nicely and will last forever. When the smell dies you can add a few drops of clove oil to a spray bottle of water and give them a mist or two. Voila! An everlasting wonderful thing!
PS During our visit to my Mama’s home, we took a drive up to Blue Ridge Georgia to visit my in-laws. Guess what is in Blue Ridge?! GEORGIA APPLES! You read that right! I didn’t say Peaches or Peanuts. APPLES! Georgia grows sweet crisp apples. I brought a few pecks home. Click here for my Spiced Georgia Apple Butter.

2. Lay the finished Clove and Orange Pomander Balls on a cookie rack for 24 hours to dry. Place them in a pretty bowl.

My Mom in Germany always made them for Christmas .
I will do the same this Christmas, thanks to you !

Oh my goodness! I haven’t made, or even thought of these, since I was a young girl 0 such a long, long time ago. We made them to put in our drawers to make our nighties and undies smell wonderful, and to give as gifts to our grandmothers.
I have been thinking about what lovely things – unusual items likely never received before – to make this year to put in the Christmas stocking for my new daughters-in-law (as a mother of boys, having daughters-in-law is so, so wonderful), when it occured to me that these might work well. I was wondering if you could use tangerines, did a quick Google search, and voila (great SEO, by the way), this post popped up.
I will think of you when I make some of these in coming weeks (for my sisters, too!), and will certainly be coming back to visit this delightful site. Thank you for the inspiration. ;o)
Well you just made my day! Thank you for taking time to email me. These are fun to make and fun to share. Please send me photos! Happy Holidays to YOU! Love + Joy + A Whole Lot of Sparkle and Charm.
My Nana used to make these years ago. I really hope mime turn out really 🙏 cool like my Nana made. 😁😍💝
Oh Deborah! This makes me smile! My mom always has a bag of oranges on Thanksgiving and bags of cloves. Everyone must fill a few oranges with cloves while sitting around the table chatting. 🙂 The smell is wonderful. PS when these dry up you can spruce them up with clove oil. 🙂 YOU are what makes blogging fun! Havre a great day! 😉 gwyn
