This tasty cocktail was created in 1961 by the famous Don Javier Delgado Corona. Owner and bartender of La Capilla (The Chapel) in Tequila, Mexico (Fitting LOL!). He is famous for stirring this Coke and Tequila Concoction with the same knife he cut the limes with. Brilliant! He called it the secret ingredient.

For this recipe I am using Don Julio Blanco. I do recommend picking your favorite. Other recommendations include Patrón, Tapatio Blanco, or Dos Primos.

Best Batanga Cocktail Recipe
Makes one cocktail.
Ingredients
Cocktail
- pinch of course salt
- 1 medium lime, whole
- 2 ounces tequila blanco
- 4 +/- ounces Mexican Coke in the bottle, chilled (Regular Coke is fine. See above details about the difference.)
Garnish
- A Large Knife
- Lime Wedges
- Course Salt and Fresh Lime Zest Mixed = Homemade Lime Infused Margarita Salt
Batanga Cocktail Instructions
Rim a chilled tumbler with course sea salt and lime zest.
Fill a glass with ice and sprinkle with a quick dash of course salt.
Next, cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice of both halves over the ice. Be careful to avoid getting seeds in the glass.
Pour in the tequila.
Top with Coca-Cola.
Stir with the knife you used to cut the lime! Magical!
Serve with extra lime wedges.
